YARWOODS SHIPBUILDERS, NORTHWICH. Tony Barratt's lecture on Yarwoods Shipbuilders will give us a further insight into this extremely important piece of this area's heritage. This lecture will be fully illustrated with photographs from Tony's extensive collection.

READINGS FROM WW1 – THE CHESHIRE REGIMENT. Major John Ellis will bring to life the conditions faced by local boys during World War 1 with readings and illustrations. This will give us a very personal history of this “war to end all wars”.

Val will take us through all types up to the Industrial Revolution will show how they became a status symbol for the rich and famous of their day. 1642 AND ALL THAT. Bob Thomas will introduce us to the conflict that shaped our democracy –the English Civil War. This illustrated lecture will cover the lead up to the war, the nature of the conflict and the development of the modern army. We will hear about 17 th century spin doctors and the impact on the population with special reference to the events in Cheshire.

Ed Bennis, who is one of the foremost authorities in the County, will guide us around some of the great and beautiful gardens of Cheshire. There may be some surprises that some of you may not know, but this lecture is sure to interest and simulate anyone who loves gardens and their heritage and history.
