STOP PRESS - Change of talk and speaker

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Geoff Taylor is unable to give his talk on the 7th March. Fortunately, local river enthusiast Colin Edmondson has agreed to step in with an entertaining lecture on all kinds of historical aspects about the River Weaver.

Geoff now plans to present his talk as part of our 2008/2009 programme.
TAYLOR’S BOATYARD, CHESTER – Geoff Taylor presents the story of the Taylor family whose boat building business is traced back to 1795. As well as the varied history of boat building and facts about the River Dee and its links with the canal, Geoff also promises to reveal some deep, dark family secrets!

Sponsored by Gilroy Wilson Shoes, Northwich.
Friday 18th April 2008
A LOCAL FOOTBALL LEGEND – Clive Penny tells the story of C. J. Hughes (1853-1916), the influential Northwich man who moulded Association Football into the “beautiful game”. As well as an insight into the development of football both locally and internationally, the talk touches on life in pre-WW1 Northwich.

The Society’s A.G.M. at 7.30 pm is followed at 8 p.m. by LIFE IN THE ORCHESTRA, a behind-the-scenes look at life in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra told with humour by Eric Jennings, who took early retirement from the orchestra after 31 years as Principal Trombone.
